Team-Up analysis

Strengths, tradeoffs, and ideal situations for each option.

Devil Dinosaur is not simply choosing between two bonuses: Primal Punishment and Surf & Turf push the kit toward different priorities. The better choice depends on map geometry, team composition, fight tempo, and whether the anchor partner already provides value on their own. The analysis below weighs both the base effect and Enhanced ceiling without treating a situational advantage as a universal answer.

OPTION 1

Primal Punishment

ANCHOR · Punisher

Primal Punishment, anchored by Punisher, gives Devil Dinosaur a very specific tactical route: Adds a new ability. Upon activation, Primal Bite is replaced. Devil Dinosaur gains 2 magnetic cannons that can be fired forward; the cannonballs detonate when hitting enemies or the environment. As a Vanguard, it should be judged by how well it helps initiate, hold space, or survive while the team advances. Area pressure makes it especially useful around objectives, doorways, and clustered teams; spread-out fights reduce that advantage. The direct offensive payoff is easy to understand, but it is only decisive when the team can safely maintain pressure. In practice, this option is best when the composition can play around that condition and reproduce it reliably. Its weakness appears when the fight forces Devil Dinosaur to react outside that plan, because part of the value is tied to a particular window, position, or interaction. With the Enhanced effect active, when teaming up with The Punisher, the duo can request an interaction. Once accepted, The Punisher rides atop Devil Dinosaur, restricting him to only Adjudication/Deliverance and Scourge Grenade while disabling other abilities. While mounted, The Punisher gains Damage Reduction; Devil Dinosaur absorbs a portion of all damage inflicted on The Punisher. That raises the option's ceiling, but it also means the composition with Punisher has to justify the team slot.

OPTION 2

Surf & Turf

ANCHOR · Jeff the Land Shark

Surf & Turf, anchored by Jeff the Land Shark, gives Devil Dinosaur a very specific tactical route: Impact Beam is replaced by a frontal water spray. This stream damages enemies while providing healing to teammates. As a Vanguard, it should be judged by how well it helps initiate, hold space, or survive while the team advances. Its sustain component has value in extended fights, but loses impact when allies cannot survive the initial burst. With the Enhanced effect active, when teaming up with Jeff the Land Shark, Jeff can ride atop Devil Dinosaur’s head. While riding, both gain some Damage Reduction and are swirled in therapeutic waters, receiving Continuous Healing. Jeff can only cast Joyful Splash, Aqua Burst, and Healing Bubble during this time. That raises the option's ceiling, but it also means the composition with Jeff the Land Shark has to justify the team slot.
