OPTION 1Two-In-One
ANCHOR · Human TorchTwo-In-One, anchored by Human Torch, gives The Thing a very specific tactical route: Enter an enhanced state upon activation. For the duration, The Thing’s fists are violently engulfed in flames. Every Rocky Jab deals splash damage, and every Stone Haymaker creates an explosion, dealing damage in a frontal cone. As a Vanguard, it should be judged by how well it helps initiate, hold space, or survive while the team advances. Its control utility can create a clean focus-fire opportunity, but coordinated teammates are needed to fully convert that opening. Area pressure makes it especially useful around objectives, doorways, and clustered teams; spread-out fights reduce that advantage. In practice, this option is best when the composition can play around that condition and reproduce it reliably. Its weakness appears when the fight forces The Thing to react outside that plan, because part of the value is tied to a particular window, position, or interaction. With the Enhanced effect active, when teaming up with Human Torch, Human Torch can lift The Thing into the air and slam him down, dealing damage and Stun to enemies. The Thing then automatically enters his flaming enhanced state upon landing. That raises the option's ceiling, but it also means the composition with Human Torch has to justify the team slot.
OPTION 2Unbreakable Forces
ANCHOR · Invisible WomanUnbreakable Forces, anchored by Invisible Woman, gives The Thing a very specific tactical route: Generate a layer of Psionic Armor upon activation, granting Bonus Health scaling off currently missing Health. As a Vanguard, it should be judged by how well it helps initiate, hold space, or survive while the team advances. Its sustain component has value in extended fights, but loses impact when allies cannot survive the initial burst. With the Enhanced effect active, when teaming up with Invisible Woman, the Psionic Armor is fortified. While active, every time The Thing takes a set amount of damage, the armor pulses out a wave of area healing for allies. Furthermore, the conversion ratio for missing Health into Bonus Health is increased. That raises the option's ceiling, but it also means the composition with Invisible Woman has to justify the team slot.
